A Classic Yellow Poem by William Wordsworth ....

Daffodils

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed--and gazed--but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.
William Wordsworth

What a wonderful poem that is! We learned the first verse at school, as so many did, and I've always remembered at least those first few lines. But it's a pleasure to read the whole thing now and then.

I like Georgia O'Keefe's work too.

On behalf of the team, thanks for taking part in ABC Wednesday this week! :)

Yellow! Those are all amazingly beautiful images. Yellow - the color of sunshine and optimism. I am often very thankful for a sunny day; especially after a few days of overcast skies.

Wonderful collection of yellows. I'd forgotten about that poem, studied it in high school. And Georgia O'Keefe's flowers, just stunning.

The O'Keefe's were stunning and that poem! My grandmother would have clipped that and put it in her stack for daily reading.

i love this poem...i got my first "easy A" in a college course by reciting it. short story long, my poly sci teacher was making a big stink that none of his students ever take time to learn things other than what is required for class...and he said he would give a guaranteed A to anyone in the class who could recite a classic poem...and boo-ya...i had this little number in my head! thanks for the great memory!

I love Georgia O'Keefe's orchid painting. And how perfect is that poem! Thank you for posting it! I remember that poem in a wonderfully illustrated book of Children's Poetry given to me when I was about 8yrs old from my paternal grandmother....I have it still in one of our many boxes! I need to find that. (I read from it to our kids and now have it saved for our future grandkids :o)

Blessings & Aloha!
Thank you for stopping by!

What a glowing and beautiful stop on our little journey through Alphabe-Thursday's letter "Y".

I have never seen that Jonquil painting before. It is lovely.

And the evocative and sentimental poem certainly brought back many memories for me.

Thank you for taking the time to link to A-T.

This was really lovely.

A+
